Cami

I've been meaning to post something about Bristol-based Cami for a while now. She's part of the Versus exhibition at Start The Bus Gallery in Bristol from 11th-18th November, as well as Inkygoodness collective exhibition at the same venue from 10th-30th December, 2010.

Deth P. Sun Illustrations

I've been keeping an eye on Deth P. Sun's work for a while now, so it's about time it got a post. If you're in San Francisco between now and 9th September drop by the current exhibition at Double Punch.

Blek Le Rat

It's been over three decades since Blek Le Rat started stenciling around Paris. Without a shadow of a doubt, he's the pioneer and, looking at his back history it's interesting to see where the medium developed from. It's a shame so few people even know of him, in comparison to the other B word anyway.

He's got an exhibition on at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco which is on now and finishes on 5th June 2010.

I'd also recommend getting his book, "Blek Le Rat - Getting Through The Walls" which is out through Thames & Hudson. I got my copy signed by Blek Le Rat when he was promoting the book at London Graphic Centre and, amazingly, there was virtually nobody there.

McFaul x howies - ABM Event

A Beautiful Machine is a two-week event curated by McFaul Studio and howies and is running from the 26th March to 9th April. A combination of art, talk and ride based above the howies store in Bristol.

With over 50 artists from around the globe, 15 incredible speakers, a bicycle treasure hunt and a special bicycle auction it's going to be a whole lot of fun.

Min-Kyu Choi UK Plug

Great news about Min-Kyu Choi, winner of the Brit Insurance Design of the Year 2010, and his folding plug. Another example of an idea you look at and kick yourself you didn't think of it, which just goes to show we're all guilty of not spending enough time thinking about the world around us and how we can improve things. I can't believe we've been using the clunky big plug design, apparently the biggest household plug in the world, since it's conception in 1946.

I do hope Min-Kyu makes the money on this before a big corp finds a way round his patent... All of the entries are on show at the Design Museum, London.

Peskimo vs. Chris Dickason

Peskimo and Chris Dickason join up to bring us Tease Made - and exhibition of prints, paintings and doodles running from 19th March to 11th April, 2010 in Bristol. It's an exhibition at Start, a new art space in Bristol, and is based around all things to do with having a nice cup of tea. Sounds like my kind of place.

Scott Campbell Show

Known the world over for his skills as a tattoo artist, Scott Campbell is showing artwork in Europe for the first time. This is a stack of a hundred $1 bills with layers carved away to create an image. His show opens at Lazarides on Greek Street today.

Phillip Marsden Exhibition

True Stories by P.M. is a retrospective exhibition of Phil's comic book works since 2004, running from 12th September - 28th November at Riverside Gallery in Richmond upon Thames. Make it there for a squizz if you can, more info here.

Glue Society

8th March saw the end of the Pulse Art Fair in New York, where the Glue Society had their latest art on show - a role reversal where there's a very small man and a larger than life pigeon. The rest, I'm sure, you can guess.

Martin Creed

Martin Creed - Work No. 786 - 2007 - 1/4" Plywood. I love art and I'm not a prude about it. I kind of buy into the whole 'it's art cos I say it's art' attitude. And I love plywood as much as the next man. No. Actually, more than the next man. In fact I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with the stuff. I used 1/4" ply (6mm to us) to cover my kitchen cupboards at my last place, with two sheets of 18 mil. ply laminated together to make the work surface. I've generally used 18 mil. ply (Latvian Birch Ply, to be precise) for more things than I maybe should have. The first birthday gift I gave my girlfriend 6 years ago, for her 21st birthday no less, was presented in a small box I made from 18 mil. ply. Now that had a snug fitting lid (she still has it today and I'm still in awe of it. And she's now my fiancé so something went right). With all that in mind, here's 's "Work No. 786". Is it art, or just a stack of ply. I'll leave you to scream in disagreement at one another, but also check "Work No. 571" from 2006, which is another stack of plywood (Martin's made a few). Or maybe "Work No. 600" from the same year, which looks terribly much like he's made a film of a girl having a poo.

Glue Society

It's from ages ago, but I spotted this entry to Sculpture by the Sea by The Glue Society. It's from back in 2006 but I'm not ageist and besides, I love it. It's called "Hot with a Chance of a Late Storm" and is made from polystyrene and urethane and it's a fair size. Check out their website, they have the equally brilliant acts of God captured by satellite imagery which have to be seen.

Jeff Soto at RAM

Hailing from California, I love Jeff Soto's striking work. The Turning In Circles exhibition at the Riverside Art Museum in California runs til 21st Feb 09.
